Responding officers found that Giuseppina Ciappina, 32, “had been drinking earlier that day and was too intoxicated to be driving a car,” Fair Lawn Police Sgt. Richard Schultz said.
She was arrested, taken to police headquarters and later released to someone’s care.
Police issued summonses for DWI and careless driving, to be answered in Fair Lawn Municipal Court a week from tomorrow.
CLIFFVIEW PILOT had the scoop last night:
The Chandler Drive incident brought residents from their homes just after 9 p.m.
Police administered a field sobriety test to the woman as they watched.
“It looked like she wasn’t taking them very seriously — until she failed the tests in front of dozens of onlookers,” one witness told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. “They then handcuffed her.”
The parked vehicles sustained various amounts of damage, while hers appeared totaled, he said (PHOTO, ABOVE).
“Thankfully nobody was injured or killed,” he said. “It could have been so much worse.”
