Route 208 In Fair Lawn Reopened After Van Downs Pole

FAIR LAWN, N.J. (UPDATE): Two lanes of Route 208 in Fair Lawn were open in each direction during the Tuesday evening rush after an extended repair job caused when a van with a trailer of construction equipment snapped a utility pole in mid-morning, dropping live power lines across the entire highway.

The southbound van was approaching McBride Avenue around 10:40 a.m. when it began to bounce back and forth, the 51-year-old driver from Hawthorne told police.

The rig veered off the roadway and hit the pole, Sgt. Brian Metzler said.

Two male passengers -- one 23 from Hawthorne and the other 60 from Paterson -- were taken to The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood with minor injuries, Metzler said.
