His window was open and the engine of his stopped 1999 Honda Odyssey running in a traffic lane when officers awoke Roberto Sanchez Mata, 43, of West New York, at 10:30 a.m. yesterday, the authority’s Joseph Pentangelo told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
His eyes were bloodshot and his speech slurred, he said.
“When he got out, he stumbled and had to be held up by the officer,” Pentangelo said. “He swayed and fell back against the side of his car. He was unable to walk and turn for any testing.”
Sanchez Mata couldn’t walk or turn during an attempted field sobriety test, then refused to take a Breathalyzer, he said.
PAPD police charged him with DWI, reckless driving and not having a license.
