Responding officers found the unresponsive 34-year-old Pompton Plains driver lying in the the middle of Valley Road between Austin Place and Sterling Place just before 5:30 a.m., Police Chief Dean Ackermann said a short time later.
Fifty feet away, his damaged 2000 Cadillac Eldorado blocked a driveway.
"Various paraphernalia associated with IV drug use and two hypodermic needles were discovered inside," Ackermann said.
The vehile had driver's side damage caused when it struck a tree in area of the Glen Avenue senior citizen’s complex a block away.
Officers Bryan Scott, James Mc Gill and Sarah Orsita -- who are all also EMTs -- administered two does of Narcan to the victim, helping to bring him around, the chief said.
The Valley Hospital paramedics and EMTs from the Glen Rock Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded and continued with on-scene medical aid, he said.
The victim was then taken to Valley.
"In accordance with a directive issued by Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir Grewal early his year, a recovery specialist was dispatched to follow up with the victim at The Valley Hospital," Ackermann said.
