Oil tank fire empties Fair Lawn car dealership

YOU SAW IT HERE FIRST: A smoky general alarm fire that began in an oil storage tank and several waste oil drums against the outside wall of a Fair Lawn car dealership sent dozens of customers, sales staff and mechanics running for cover this afternoon.

No injuries were reported from the 2 p.m. fire at Glen Toyota on Maple Avenue.

Firefighters quickly brought it under control, then checked the building for any extension of the fire and helped ventilate smoke.

All of Fair Lawn’s fire companies responded, along with police, EMS, and Heavy Rescue units.

Maple Avenue was closed in both directions between Henderson Boulevard and Route 208 as they worked at the scene.
