New Milford school custodian charged with having sex with teen

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A 46-year-old New Milford school maintenance worker was arrested on rape charges after a 23-year-old woman told police he had sex with her beginning when she was 15 and continuing for three years while she was living in Bergenfield.

The woman brought her claims to Bergenfield police last Friday, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said this afternoon.

They then notified Special Victims Unit, members of which interviewed the woman yesterday, he said.

A short time later, they arrested Abelardo Ramirez of Glen Rock on charges of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual contact, criminal sexual contact and child endangerment.

Ramirez, who is married and works at the Hovnanian School, was being held on $350,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail pending a court hearing.
