Man takes own life on NJ Transit tracks in Glen Rock

YOU SAW IT HERE FIRST: A man ducked under a railroad crossing gate in Glen Rock as an NJ Transit train approached, then deliberately was struck and killed tonight, an agency spokeswoman said.

The man “ran underneath the grade crossing gate onto the gauge of the tracks and made no attempt to move” from the approaching Port Jervis-bound train carrying 450 or so customers and crew members at Rock Road near the CVS at 6:50 p.m., NJ Transit’s Nancy Snyder told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Glen Rock police were first on the scene, followed by the Bergen County Police, NJ Transit police and a paramedic unit from the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood.

The Bergen County Medical Examiner’s Office made the pronouncement soon after.

NJ Transit police were investigating.
