Both the police car and other vehicle had to be towed after the collision, just after 7 a.m., near the Routes 287/17 fly-over.

Officer Michael Connington was responding to a call of another crash when his cruiser hit a patch of ice, went into a slide and hit a 2005 Toyota driver by a Fair Lawn woman who had pulled to the side after seeing the police lights and hearing the sirens, Mahwah Police Chief James Batelli told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Batelli said there were several incidents along that stretch of state roadway during the icy morning.
