Glen Rock Police Chief Fred Stahman said both vehicles were headed northbound on Ackerman when the Jeep improperly tried to pass the bus, which was making a left onto Rock Road.
The bus “clipped the rear bumper of the Jeep, causing it to spin and flip over,” the chief told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
The 23-year-old Wyckoff driver of the Jeep wasn’t injured, Stahman said. He was issued a summons.
Five passengers were on the bus, the chief said.
Traffic on both roadways was diverted during the subsequent cleanup after the 5 p.m. crash. The Jeep was removed from the scene by flatbed tow truck.
The #175 bus was parked until an NJ Transit mechanic could determine whether it could be driven away.
Glen Rock police investigated the accident and provided traffic control.
Also responding were Glen Rock and Fair Lawn firefighters and the Glen Rock Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
