Officers Anthony Lugo, Glen Callons, Brian Rypkema and Donald MacIsaac sped to the intersection of Carlisle Road and Whitehall Street after receiving several 911 calls of a street fight.

There they found 38-year-old Christopher M. Murano of Mahwah “in the custody of” Milton Amoroso of Carlisle Road, Fair Lawn Sgt. Richard E. Schultz said.

Amoroso told them he’d been gone all of 10 minutes when he returned to his house to find Murano in a second-floor room around 11:15 Wednesday morning.

Murano ran out, police said, and Amoroso caught up with him about a block away.

The officers grabbed Murano, who Schultz said was carrying several items taken from Amoroso’s home.

“He grabbed costume jewelry, [Amoroso’s] wallet with credit cards, a Nintendo DS game system and a coin & stamp collection valued at $5,000,” Schultz said, adding that the thief dropped some of the coin and stamp panels on his way out the door.

Although he scuffled with Amoroso, Murano “didn’t resist when officers arrived,” the sergeant said.

They charged Murano with robbery, burglary and theft and took him to the Bergen County Jail, where he was ordered held on $25,000 bail.
