The incident began around 3:45 p.m. Monday when two employees at the Superfresh confronted Jose L. Estrada, 41, as he tried to make off with nearly $300 worth of booze, Police Chief Dean Ackermann said.
Store video showed Estrada pulling a knife that he cut one of the employees with during the struggle before the injured 28-year-old worker and a store manager held him down, the chief said.
EMTs from the Glen Rock Volunteer Ambulance Corps treated both employees at the scene.
Estrada was brought to the Bergen County Jail after being medically cleared at New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus, Ackermann said.
Police charged him with armed robbery, aggravated assault and weapons possession.
Records show Estrada, whom a judge ordered remained held at the jail after a detention hearing, also had outstanding warrants out of Clifton and Paterson.
