Glen Rock police went to the train station at borough hall just before 1:30 Sunday morning to back up transit police on the fight call, records show.
Transit authorities arrested 20-year-old Kevin Welsh of Monroe, who they said was carrying a knife. They took him to their station at the Secaucus junction.
Glen Rock police, meanwhile, were left with Welsh’s 20-year-old companion, who at first refused help in getting home to Highland Mills, Sgt. Dean Ackermann told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
Although she eventually agreed to take a Port Jervis-bound train, he said, the conductor booted the intoxicated woman off before it even left the station.
“She was uncooperative, refused to produce ID, and was abusive to the train conductor,” Ackerman said.
In her condition, police couldn’t leave her alone at the station, Ackerman said, so they called an ambulance.
“She was completely uncooperative with the EMTs and refused transportation to the hospital,” the sergeant told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
After finally obtaining reliable identification, Glen Rock officers ran a background check and found active warrants for the woman’s arrest — connected to an underaged drinking incident — of out Point Pleasant Beach.
Glen Rock police took her into custody and found her carrying prescription drugs for which she had no paperwork, as well as a phony New York State driver’s license, Ackerman said.
Once at headquarters, she refused to be fingerprinted or photographed. She nonetheless was processed and taken to the county jail on $20,000 bail.
Two days later, a bondsman posted the money and she was released.
The woman, identified as Amanda C. Eckel, now awaits a court hearing on drug and false documents charges.
