The 49-year-old victim "entered the Glen Avenue crosswalk in front of the Glen Rock Inn [in the central business district] and began crossing the street heading east" just after 2 p.m., Police Chief Dean Ackermann said.
"The pedestrian crossing light was on, giving her the right of way," he said.
The 42-year-old SUV driver, also from Glen Rock, made a left turn from Rock Road onto Glen Avenue, where her vehicle struck the victim, the chief said.
"According to the witnesses the pedestrian had an umbrella open and canted, which may have obstructed her view," he said.
EMTs from the Glen Rock Volunteer Ambulance Corps treated her at the scene and took her to The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening, the chief said.
The driver, who was also examined by EMT’s, received a summons for failing to stop for a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk.
Officers transported her and her child to their home, Ackermann said.
"The traffic signal and pedestrian crossing lights were inspected and appeared to be operating as intended," he said.
The accident was investigated by Officer Sarah Orsita, assisted by Sgt. Frank Riggio and Officers Bryan Scott and James Mc Gill.
