GLEN ROCK, N.J. -- An unlicensed DWI driver from Garfield tried to have his uninsured car towed without calling police after an overnight crash in Glen Rock, authorities said Monday.
AAA Road Service Dispatch notified police, who responded to the crash at Prospect Street near Orchard Place at 4:30 a.m. Sunday, Police Chief Dean Ackermann said.
Michael Koppenal, 25, was charged with DWI, refusing to submit to a breath test, careless driving, failing to report a crash, driving with a suspended license and operating an uninsured vehicle, the chief said.
The vehicle was impounded and Koppenal was released to a sober adult, under John's Law.
No serious injuries were reported.
