Glen Rock firefighters pulled out their colleagues, who were taken to The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood with injuries that Police Chief Dean Ackermann said weren't life-threatening.
Glen Rock Fire Chief Tom Jennings credited the two borough firefighters with saving their village colleagues' lives.
The home was heavily damaged and was deemed uninhabitable, he said.
The resident had already evacuated the home in the 500 block of Prospect Street when the call came in just after 7:30 p.m., Ackermann, the police chief, told Daily Voice late Monday.
It was under control within an hour or so.
Fair Lawn, Hawthorne and Midland Park were among the companies that also responded, Ackermann said.
Responders also included Ridgewood and Glen Rock EMS and Ridgewood and Glen Rock police.
Some firefighters rushed over after leaving a blaze at the Marcal plant in Elmwood Park.
