"We are proud to honor our police, volunteer firefighters and volunteer EMTs," Mayor Bruce Packer said.
"With respect to the Glen Rock Volunteer Fire Department and Glen Rock Volunteer Ambulance Corps, we truly value our volunteers who give their time and energy to be there when our lives are potentially at risk," the mayor said.
"We have painted an additional, thin blue line in the middle of Rock Road from train track to train track as an additional acknowledgement of the fact that we know that the Glen Rock Police Department always has our backs," he added, "and that we, as a community, have theirs."
Dating back decades, the "thin blue line" is used throughout the U.S. and Canada to symbolize the thin line between chaos and order.
It's employed, as well, to commemorate fallen law enforcement officers and to represent the shared commitment of all of them to protecting the public.
Citizens have begun using it in curb strips outside their homes and stores, while towns have been painting lines down important thoroughfares to show police that they have their backs.
