No passengers were aboard the Hoboken-bound Bergen line train when the 33-year-old Fair Lawn man stepped into its path just east of the Broadway station and was struck just after 1:40 p.m., NJ Transit spokesman William Smith told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Traffic was suspended between the Plauderville station in Garfield and Ridgewood for about an hour and 15 minutes before being restored.

Bergen County has had nearly a third of the total suicides by train for NJ Transit, officials said.
