Donald MacIsaac of Ringwood turned himself in to his department to be charged with theft on Tuesday after a two-month investigation by the Internal Affairs Unit and the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office, Police Chief Glen Cauwels said Wednesday.

MacIsaac was released on a summons pending a court hearing and suspended without pay, the chief said.

"Officers of the Fair Lawn Police Department strive to conduct themselves with integrity and professionalism," Cauwels said. "When officers are found to have engaged in misconduct, this department must correct the behavior.

"The Fair Lawn Police Department is full of great police officers. What occurred in this case is not a reflection of how our department operates."
