Eric M. Mayo, 32 -- whose criminal history stretches back to his teens -- was already being held in the Bergen County Jail for an unrelated incident when fingerprints lifted from the tape by the Bergen County Sheriff's Bureau of Criminal Identification linked him to the crime.
"He had an argument with one of his neighbors and put the notes up," Sgt. Brian Metzler told Daily Voice. "We found the fingerprints on the tape, sent it out and it came back last week."
Mayo has been arrested no fewer than a dozen times the past 14 years on charges that include harassment, intimidation, aggravated assault on a police officer, hindering, obstruction and parole violations, records show.
He'd been freed on $1,000 bail for a week and a half after police charged him with assault and resisting arrest in September when the Nov. 13 incident at the apartment building on Langan Court occurred, records show.
The swastika drawings were found taped to the wall and on the hallway floor, Metzler said.
Fair Lawn police charged Mayo with harassment and bias intimidation.
