The resident flagged down Officer Nicholas Snyder on Whitehall Street att 1:49 p.m. yesterday to a suspicious 1996 Ford Explorer parked nearby "for an extended period of time," Sgt. Brian Metzler said this morning.
Snyder found the vehicle had been moved to the driveway of a Whitehall Street street driveway and interviewed the passengers, identified as Dariel Aybar, 25, and Rafael Hidalgo, 23.
They said the driver, 25-year-old Travis Villalobos, was inside visiting his uncle.
Snyder asked to speak to the uncle when Villalobos answered the door, Metzler said. He closed it, then spoke with the 52-year-old victim, who went to the door, he said.
The man told Snyder that Villalabos had grabbed his arm and forced his way in, then told him to tell police that they were acquainted.
Backups arrived and all three were arrested, Metzler said.
"Evidence of drug use, loose pieces of jewelry, electronics, gloves and burglary tools were found inside the vehicle," he said.
Villalobos was being held on $150,000 bail at the Bergen County Jail, charged with burglary, conspiracy, assault, false imprisonement, providing false information and possession of burglary tools.
Aybar and Hidalgo were charged with burglary, conspiracy, providing false information, possession of burglary tools and possession of drug paraphernalia. They were being held on $75,000 bail each in the Bergen County Jail.
