Lt. James Corcoran approached 41-year-old Richard Weaset as he walked on Heights Avenue at Wagaraw Road around 8:30 p.m. Friday, Sgt. Brian Metzler said.

Wease ran, dropping a bag, then jumped from the Lincoln Avenue bridge, Metzler said.

Hawthorne and Paterson police joined backup Fair Lawn offices and detectives, closed in on Wease and took him into custody north of the bridge, the sergeant said.

In the bag were a DVD player and 7 DVDs stolen during a Heights Avenue home burglar.

Wease, who had an arrest warrant out of Jersey City, was ordered held on $50,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with burglary, theft, obstruction, two counts of resisting arrest -- and improper crossing by a pedestrian.
