FAIR LAWN, N.J. -- A U.S. Marine Corps flag stolen from atop a Fair Lawn overpass above Route 208 was replaced by local firefighters -- drawing praise from area veterans.
The borough Office of Veterans Affairs thanked Fire Company #3 "for going above and beyond" to replace the Morlot Avenue flag.
"This came as a big surprise to our office," organization officials said. "Moments like this prove what pillars to the community our volunteer emergency members really are. All of our military, police, firefighters and emergency service personnel are a team of one and help each other when we need support."
Meanwhile, a search for the stolen flag continued.
