Detective Anthony Lugo went to the business after a Blue Hill Avenue resident alerted police to a May 30 afternoon break-in in which a window pane to a side door had been broken, Sgt. Brian Metzler said.

Lugo found that 48-year-old Barry Green used one of two stolen credit cards at the business to buy nearly $285 worth of merchanise, Metzler said.

The detective was headed to another business for more evidence when he spotted Green walking along Broadway in Paterson – wearing the same clothing captured on the first store’s surveillance video, the sergeant said.

He took Green into custody without incident, Metzler said.

Green – whose criminal history stretches back nearly 25 years, including a May arrest in Fair Lawn for burglary and credit card theft – was ordered held without bail in the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.

Green was free without bail after Fair Lawn police arrested him on May 2 for a Union Street home burglary three days earlier in which an iPad, a Fibit, jewelry and other valuables were taken.
