Anna Grinshpon was released on a summons to appear for a Municipal Court hearing on charges of swiping Dulcolax and a natural supplement, worth a combined $55.27, from the CVS on Fair Lawn Avenue Saturday afternoon.

Store employees called police after she returned to the store yesterday, a police report says. Three officers responded.

“The public needs to know that we will arrest anybody who breaks the law,” Fair Lawn Police Detective Sgt. Brian Metzler said.

Shoplifting is most common among adolescents and least common among the elderly — even though people over 60 make up nearly 20 percent of the population.

Grinshpon’s particular circumstances weren’t clear. But experts say most elderly shoplifters aren’t motivated by economic trouble — but, rather, some type of mental disorder.

They could be compensating for the loss of a spouse, a job, their health or independence, experts say, adding that most snatch jewelry or cosmetics.
