Randy Pino, 37, shimmied through a food delivery chute and forced his way into a basement where the cash was kept at the Empress Diner on River Road during an overnight break-in on Sept. 20, 2015, Sgt. Brian Metzler said.
Detective Sgt. Tim O’Shaughnessy and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation recovered DNA from a torn latex glove found outside the diner that was sent to the State Police Laboratory in West Trenton, Metzler said.
Pino's adult criminal record stretches back to 1997 and includes arrests for robbery, burglary, credit card fraud, failing to pay child support and probation violations.
Records show he spent time in state prison from August 2010 to March 2012 for violating a restraining order and making terroristic threats.
The 6-foot, 180-pound ex-con -- also known as "Randy Reyes" -- was among hundreds arrested two years ago during a joint anti-heroin initiative in Paterson spearheaded by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office and involving dozens of law enforcement agencies.
Burglary and theft charges against Pino from an indictment returned by a grand jury in Hackensack last year were still pending.
