FAIR LAWN, N.J. -- A 51-year-old Franklin Lakes man was intoxicated when his luxury car went up a Route 208 embankment and rolled back onto the shoulder of the highway over the weekend, Fair Lawn police said this morning.
Cesar Shapiama told police he swerved to avoid an animal in the northbound roadway as he approached Fair Lawn Avenue around 4:20 a.m. Saturday, Sgt. Brian Metzler said.
The 2006 Bentley Flying Spur "rode up the embankment between the highway and the ramp and into a guiderail, then rolled down the embankment onto the shoulder of the highway," he said.
Shapiama, who wasn't injured, failed a roadside sobriety test, was arrested on DWI charges and was released to a "responsible adult," the sergeant said,
The Bentley was towed from the scene, he said.
