“It was not at a grade crossing, in a wooded area, behind an industrial area” off Route 208 near the Fair Lawn border, John Durso of NJ Transit told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
In another similarity, Fair Lawn resident Steven Van Kirk “positioned himself in front of the train and refused to move,” Durso said.
Service was suspended within an hour and the 375 passengers on the Bergen Line train were given the option of transferring to buses, he said. Subsequent delays averaged roughly 15 minutes, Durso said.
Responding were Glen Rock and Fair Lawn police, Fair Lawn EMS, paramedics from The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, Bergen County Police, the county Medical Examiner’s office and NJ Transit police.

It also was the fourth time in two weeks a pedestrian has been struck by an NJ Transit train, including one in Matawan yesterday and another in Garfield July 24.
