All clear after threat forces Glen Rock school evacuation

UPDATE: Following a search of more than an hour, the Alexander Hamilton Elementary School in Glen Rock was given the all-clear, and authorities began searching the parking lot, after a phoned-in threat forced the school’s evacuation this afternoon.

Hamilton students were dismissed from the Academy of Our Lady School beginning at 2 p.m., while all other borough schools continued operations under “shelter-in-place” mode. Meanwhile, Election Day voting was temporarily suspended.

The Glen Rock Middle School on Hamilton Avenue was also closed during the search. Voters were redirected to Borough Hall during the lockdowns. Polling resumed after 3 o’clock.

A phalanx of police cars converged on the the Hamilon School around 1:30, minutes after a call came in “telling everyone to get out,” one source told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. The caller then hung up, he said.

Police were on the roof and scouring the Harristown Road building. A bomb-sniffing K9 was brought in, as well.
