GLEN ROCK, N.J. -- Valentino Vella, a resident of Glen Rock, died Tuesday, Feb.23. He was 79.
He earned a master’s degree in applied math from New York University.
He attended the Community Church of Glen Rock and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel R.C. Church in Ridgewood. Prior to retiring in 2006, he was a software engineer with Telcordia Technologies (Bellcore) in Piscataway and ATT Bell Laboratories in Whippany for many years. Among his many accomplishments, he worked on the lunar module for Grumman Aircraft.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Vella; his children, Mary Van Horn and husband James, Christine Lovette and husband Tracey and Sara Frischer and husband Steve; his grandchildren, Teresa Brown and husband Michael, Gregory, Robert and Laura Van Horn, Kayla and Jordan Lovette and Alec, Brady and Grace Frischer; great-grandson William Brown; brother, Salvinu Vella, Concetta Russell and husband James, Joyce Vella and the late Gemma and Rita Vella and Mary McInerney.
He was predeceased by his former wife Dorothy Walsh.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 6-9 p.m. Friday at Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home, 13-31 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn. A funeral service is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at the Community Church of Glen Rock, 354 Rock Road, Glen Rock. Cremation will be private.
