Born in the Bronx, Jack was a lifelong resident of Glen Rock. He graduated from Glen Rock High School and was a parishioner of St. Catharine R.C. Church in Glen Rock.
He had just finished his first year at James Madison University in Virginia when he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma on Father’s Day 2016.
He enjoyed playing golf, heading to Citi Field to cheer on the Mets, watching Game of Thrones, making quick cash on the slots and roulette table. Spending time with his friends and family was a vital source of support for him during difficult days.
Jack was an introspective, caring, and intelligent person with a quick wit that delighted those around him.
He is survived by his parents, Rudy and Maureen (Lynch) Mattsson; brother Erik Mattsson.
Visitation will be Friday, Oct. 19 and 20, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home.
A Funeral Mass is planned for Saturday, Oct. 21, at 9:30 a.m., at St. Catharine R.C. Church. Interment will follow at Fair Lawn Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Jack may be made to the Sarcoma Foundation of America.
