This year, in an effort to alleviate the issues relating to resident commuter parking at the Borough Hall train station, the city has converted 19 parking spots from non-resident to resident.
"We converted the non-resident numbered spots formerly marked 42-60 on the Borough Hall side of the tracks. The mayor said he understands that more needs to be done and the city is working on the issues," he said.
Here are some options the borough is looking at, each of which will take a little time to execute:
- Designate some parking spots in the Wilde Memorial Lot for commuters. The borough is investigating this option with consideration for the safety of pedestrians as they cross Maple Avenue.
- Add new parking spaces on Harding Plaza. The borough is looking into this now with help from its engineer.
- Bring back the commuter shuttle. The borough will be sending out a mailing very soon to gauge public interest. Due to the cost and logistics of operating the shuttle, the borough needs to have a sense of how many commuters potentially would use the shuttle and where they are located.
- Packer said the borough is leaving no stone unturned and will look at other options as well.
He added the Main Line parking lot has been filling up through the course of the day and that the addition of non-resident spots (moved from Borough Hall) has made the situation more challenging.
"Please remember that there are more than 20 resident commuter spots outside of the lot on Main Street and near Veteran’s Park. We will continue to monitor the situation and decide if more changes are needed," Packer said.
