Fair Lawn: 'Greenlight' A U.S. Veteran To Show Appreciation

FAIR LAWN, N.J. -- You can show U.S. veterans respect and appreciation when they're back home in uniform by changing a light in a visible place of your home or office to green, keeping it on -- and taking a photo of it.

Although brave and hard-working while on duty, some of America’s veterans seem more camouflaged than ever at home. GreenLight A Vet aims to demonstrate united national support for them.

Green is the color of hope, renewal and well-being. “Greenlight” is also a term commonly used to activate forward movement.

"The simple action of changing one light to green is intended to spark a national conversation regarding the recognition of veterans, and 'greenlight' them forward as valued members of our communities," the organization says.

Change one light to green in a visible location -- on your porch, in your home, or at your office -- and keep it glowing as a symbol of appreciation and support for our veterans. Then take a photo of it and share using the hashtag: #greenlightavet.

The photos will be displayed during the Veterans Day parade on Wednesday in New York City.
