Glen Rock grandmother Susan Camp Tryforos launched the Pussyhat Project in Glen Rock, and has been knitting hats — with help from Elaine Silverstein and Yuriko Bertram — which local activists will wear next month to the Women's March on Washington.
More than 1 million people at the march will be rocking the pink, knit hats with ears in support of women's rights.
"It’s just kind of a nice way to get involved and have people focus on something positive," said Tryforos, the president of the Glen Rock Historical Society.
It's about giving to someone for the sake of giving, and making people happy.
Tryforos is an avid knitter and has made blankets for Project Linus, her grandchildren and other local organizations. She knits every night to keeps her hands busy and to help with her arthritis.
So when she saw her cousin from Arizona posting on Facebook about the Pussyhat Project, Tryforos felt the Pussyhat Project was the perfect opportunity to take action.
Tryforos has offered to knit a hat for anyone who wants one.
The Pussyhat Project is a grassroots initiative that intends to foster camaraderie across the country. People who can't physically be at the march can wear the hats in solidarity.
