Among the items that he's purchased so far is an antique milk bottle from Brookfield Dairy Farm, formerly operated by Frank DeBoer and Sons.
The computer programmer says he doesn't buy as much as he used to, but he pops onto the site from time to time just to see what people are selling.
“It’s a nice memento of bygone days,” the 53-year-old Fitzgerald said, whose contemporaries remember receiving milk deliveries. “Ridgewood and Glen Rock were very pretty places in the 1960s.”
Fitzgerald first posted the for sale link in the “You Know You’re From Glen Rock When…” Facebook group, which he’s an administrator of.
After seeing little interest from group members, Fitzgerald made the purchase of the milk bottle for himself for $9.95.
“I toyed with the idea because I have a lot of clutter around my house,” he said, adding that he has a “ trove of Glen Rock items” he may eventually donate to Glen Rock Historical and Preservation Society.
“A lot of Glen Rock alums, or the 'diaspora' as I call them, can’t afford to live there anymore,” he said. “The land has become more and more valuable. the population density is very high.”
Fitzgerald headed south to Georgia when it was "time to move out of mom and pop's house," but keeps in touch with his New Jersey-based friends on Facebook.
And Fitzgerland doesn't put a price on friendship.
