Inserra Supermarkets is also part of the Wakefern Food Corp., which operates its own recycling center in Elizabeth, New Jersey. That facility has recycled nearly two million tons of material since 1970.

More than one billion people in 192 countries are expected to take actions to protect the environment in observation of Earth Day this year. Since its inception in 1970, Earth Day has focused on the need to stabilize and reduce global greenhouse gas emissions and fight climate change.
