Njit Student Fighting For His Life After Major Crash A New Jersey Institute of Technology senior is fighting for his life after a serious car crash. Vinamra Sharma has been taken off a ventilator but suffers severe brain swelling after multiple surgeries, stemming from a crash on Nov. 12, said Abhishek Sharma, who organized a GoFundMe page. Vinamra was on his way home from the university's campus in Newark when the crash occurred, knocking him unconscious the GoFundMe says. Newark Man Shot Dead In Broad Daylight A man was fatally shot mid-afternoon in Newark. Jerry Wayne Works, Jr., 50, was shot at 36 Brenner Street around 1:25 p.m. Monday, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose said. He was transported to Rutgers University Hospital and was pronounced dead less than an hour later. The investigation is active and ongoing. Carlos Green, who is now 44 years old, was driving a Cadillac Escalade near 19th and Ellis avenues Dec. 27, 2014, when he struck a pedestrian.
