Man Fatally Shot In Newark: Authorities A 37-year-old Newark man was shot and killed early Friday morning, May 19, authorities said. At 2:35 a.m., police responded to a report of a shooting on the 100 block of Lindsley Avenue, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II and Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. Soon after, they received a report on the 200 block of Sunset Avenue and located Wesley Murphy in a car suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, Stephens and Fragé said. Haywood Covington, 29, has been wanted by police since Thursday, March 31. He owns a 2020 blue Ford Fusion, which was found with a bullet hole at the scene of a shooting on the 100 block of Sunset Avenue around 10 a.m., Newark Public Safety Director Brian A.
