Passenger Killed, Driver Seriously Injured In Route 80 Crash
A 38-year-old passenger was killed and the driver seriously injured in an overnight crash on Route 80, authorities confirmed. Richard Bahamonte of Hillside was pronounced dead at the scene of the eastbound crash near the Teaneck/Ridgefield Park border west of Exit 68 just after 3 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, NJ State Police said. The driver, Julio Brito, 40, of Hasbrouck Heights, lost control of the Honda, which careened off the road, slammed into a concrete barrier and ended up on its roof, they said. A 33-year-old Newark man was sentenced to eight years in prison on Friday, Jan. 26 after being convicted of fatally shooting a 31-year-old Hillside man in 2021, authorities said. On July 22, 2021 at 10 p.m., Hillside police responded to the 1400 block of North Broad Street and found Steven Zimmerman suffering from a fatal gunshot wound, Union County Prosecutor William Daniel and Hillside Police Department Officer in Charge. A man fatally shot his wife's lover and then himself over the weekend in Newark, sources tell Daily Voice. Terrance Carroll, 51, killed Isaiah Cobb, 33, of Hillside, before turning the gun on himself around 11:30 p.m. Saturday, June 10, on the 100 block of Shephard Avenue in Newark, according to Daily Voice sources with direct knowledge of the incident. Two Hillside gas stations were robbed five times over the course of three days, police said. On Saturday, May 6, two men in a black Hyundai Santa Fe robbed the gas station attendant and attempted to carjack a vehicle at the Mobil gas station at 1410 N Broad St, police said. "I shot myself," is what a 16-year-old boy found lying on the ground on Highland Avenue in Hillside told authorities he was running from Thursday night, April 13, police said. 27-Year-Old Jeep Driver Killed, Passenger Extricated In NJ Crash
A 27-year-old Warren County Jeep driver was killed and his 33-year-old passenger extricated in a Union county crash Saturday, March 4, authorities said. The unidentified driver lost control of his Jeep Cherokee while heading south on North Broad Street near Hillside Avenue in Hillside just before 10 p.m., Hillside Chief Vincent Ricciardi said. The vehicle hit a guardrail and overturned in front of 16 Hillside Ave. The driver died and the passenger was taken to University Hospital in Newark in unknown condition. Police ID 23-Year-Old Fatally Struck By Truck In Hillside
Authorities have identified the 23-year-old Hillside man struck and killed by a truck on Tuesday, Jan. 10, authorities said. Derek J. Scott was in the roadway in front of 11 Vine St. when he was struck around 10:45 a.m., HPD Chief Vincent Ricciardi said.
