Newark Police Seek Shooting Suspect (Photo) A man wanted for a shooting in Newark on the morning of Wednesday, March 20, is at large, police said.  At 7 a.m., Newark police responded to the 100 block of West Runyon Street and found a man had fired a handgun toward Hawthorne Avenue, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé said.  No injuries were reported, though police recovered a .9 mm shell casing at the scene, Fragé said. Police are hoping to use surveillance footage to help identify the suspect, Fragé said. Sanitation Worker Critical In Newark Hit-Run Crash A sanitation worker was hospitalized in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle Wednesday evening in Newark. The man was collecting trash for an independent company when he was struck by a white Lincoln near the intersection of Hawthorne and Goodwin avenues around 11:30 p.m., Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said. The driver fled the scene and the victim was taken to University Hospital.  Authorities were searching for the driver as of Thursday morning.

Seen IT? Newark PD Seeks Carjacked Cadillac Authorities in Newark are on the lookout for a silver SUV they say was targeted in an armed carjacking Monday afternoon. A man exiting a 2004 Cadillac Escalade was approached by an armed man who demanded money near the 300 block of Hawthorne Avenue around 11:45 a.m., Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose said. The armed man then sped off in the victim’s vehicle, heading west on Hawthorne Avenue, Ambrose said. Newark Man Faces Aggravated Assault Charge In Shooting A 23-year-old man has been charged in a Newark shooting that left one person injured earlier this month, authorities said Friday. City resident Jamil F. Brown, 23, is accused of shooting a man near Wolcott Terrace and Hawthorne Avenue around 7:45 p.m., Oct. 1, Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose said. The victim was treated for his injuries at Newark Beth Israel Hospital, Ambrose said.   Brown was arrested Oct. 2 and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

1 Dead, 1 Extricated In Overnight Newark Crash One person died and another was extricated in an overnight Newark crash, authorities confirmed Saturday morning. The male was pronounced dead at the scene of Hawthorne Avenue and Irvine Turner Boulevard around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, a spokeswoman for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said. A second victim was extricated and the street was closed for investigation. Identification of the male killed was pending notification to the family, authorities said. This is a developing story.
