Harrington Park Pedestrian Airlifted After Crash
A 59-year-old Harrington Park resident suffered a broken leg when she was struck by a vehicle while walking along the road, authorities said. A 35-year-old female driver from Washington Township hit the woman near the corner of Harriot Avenue and West Shore Road around 7 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, Harrington Park Police Chief Robert Murphy said. "It appears that the pedestrian was walking eastbound in the eastbound lane and the motorist didn't see her and struck her," Murphy said. There's no sidewalk there, residents noted. A fast-moving pre-dawn fire destroyed a Harrington Park home. A couple who bought the Maryann Lane home just last month wasn't there when the blaze broke out at around 5 a.m., less than an hour before sunrise. Police from neighboring towns converged Thursday afternoon to capture a pair of burglars who broke into a Northvale home. A 911 call alerted police to a burglary in progress on Snedeker Place at 1:40 p.m. May 18, Northvale Police Chief Howard Ostrow said. Smoky Roof Fire Doused At Bergen County Nursing Home
Firefighters doused a smoky blaze at a Bergen County nursing home Friday afternoon. The building was evacuated and there didn't initially appear to be any serious injuries after the fire broke out between the roof and second floor at the Russ Berrie Home for Jewish Living around 1:30 p.m., responders said. UPDATE: Five minivan occupants had to be hospitalized -- three of whom were extricated by police -- following a multi-vehicle crash that closed the northbound Palisades Interstate Parkway on Saturday for nearly an hour and a half, authorities said.
