Glen Ridge Native, Ex-Fire Chief In Sussex County Joel Sparling Dies The Sussex County community is mourning the loss of former Fredon Volunteer Fire Company Chief Joel Sparling. He died Oct. 25 at the age of 56. Born in Glen Ridge, Sparling later moved to Fredon Township, where he became heavily involved in the community, his obituary says. Sparling was a lifetime member of the Fredon Volunteer Fire Company and served on the Morris Minute Men Emergency Medical Services team.
