A police officer suffered smoke inhalation and 46 dogs were rescued from a boarding facility when a fire broke out at an industrial complex in Essex County Saturday night, April 20, authorities said. Police officers from Fairfield, West Caldwell, North Caldwell, and Wayne responded to the Pio Costa Industrial Complex on Bloomfield Avenue in Fairfield around 9:35 p.m. on reports of smoke condition, local police said. Fire Investigators Examine Fort Lee House Blaze
Firefighters contained a Fort Lee house blaze to a front bedroom after a passing lieutenant saw smoke. Fire Lt. Phil Craddock was driving on the Route 1&9 overpass around 4:45 p.m. Monday when he spotted the smoke coming from the two-story home at 2068 Jones Road just below. Maywood firefighters quickly doused a house blaze that broke out across from their firehouse late Saturday afternoon. No injuries were reported in the apparently-electrical Park Avenue basement fire across from the municipal complex, which includes the fire and police departments and First Aid Squad. Fair Lawn Firefighters Douse Blaze At Auto Repair Shop
Fire damaged a Fair Lawn auto repair shop on Saturday. Firefighters “quickly stretched hose into the building and got the fire knocked down” after it broke out at Prestige Autowerks on Fair Lawn Avenue at Third Street shortly after 6 p.m., Fire Chief Thomas Carney said. Carney declared the two-alarm blaze under control within a half-hour. No one was injured, he said.
