One Killed, Two Wounded In Newark Triple Shooting
One person was killed and two others were injured in a triple shooting in Newark on the afternoon of Friday, April 19, authorities said. The shooting occurred at 5 p.m. on Avon Avenue, Thomas Fennelly, a spokesman for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said. Two of the victims were transported to a nearby hospital, while one declined medical attention, Fennelly said. One of the victims was pronounced dead the next morning, Fennelly said. Maryann Swain, 39, a township resident, struck Montclair Police Officer Michael J. A police officer and suspect were both injured in a shooting on Monday, April 15, authorities said. An individual in a residence began shooting at a police officer on the 100 block of Forest Street, Thomas Fennelly, a spokesman for the Essex County Prosecutors Office said. The officer was hit but was able to return fire, striking the suspect, Fennelly aid. The officer and suspect were transported to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Fennelly said. A 61-year-old Brooklyn, NY man was shot and killed overnight in Irvington, NJ, authorities said. Oliver A. A 78-year-old woman was fatally struck by a vehicle in Belleville on Friday, March 22, authorities said. At 8:53 a.m., Teresita Cenit was hit by a car while walking on the 100 block of Union Avenue, Thomas Fennelly, a spokesman for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said. Eddie Negron, a longtime police officer who worked in East Newark and the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, died on Saturday Feb. 10 in Philadelphia at the age of 46, according to his obituary. Born in Hoboken, Negron joined the East Newark Police Department in July 1998 and moved to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office as a detective in 2005, later achieving the rank of sergeant.
