Elizabeth Firefighter Tony Fanelli Jr. Dies, 44 The Elizabeth Fire Department is mourning the loss of one of its own. Anthony "Tony" Fanelli Jr. died on Nov. 26. He was 44 years old. Those who knew him said he died of medical complications. Tony came from a family of firefighters and spent 14 years with the department. His father, Tony Fanelli Sr., was a retired firefighter as were his uncle, Matt Fanelli, and Mike Fanelli, Local 2040 vice president. Arthur spent most of his firefighting career on Ladder 3, and officer years as captain of Rescue 1 and, most recently, Battalion 2, Tour 1. Condolences poured in. Skeletal Remains Found On Elizabeth Waterfront Firefighters found what appeared to be skeletal remains while conducting training on an Elizabeth waterfront. The bones were found in the water near Elizabeth Avenue and Front Street Thursday, fire officials said. It wasn't immediately known if the remains were human or animal, firefighters said. Firefighters Feed Hose Through Window Of Car Blocking Hydrant To Battle Elizabeth Blaze Firefighters fed their house through the window of a vehicle blocking a hydrant to battle a three-alarm blaze that broke out Monday night in Elizabeth. Flames were tearing through a home at 224 Fulton St., when firefighters arrived around 10:30 p.m., officials said. The blaze at the two- and-  a-half wood-framed house spread to a three-story home and another two and a half-story house nearby, officials said. Firefighters Rescue Man Who Fell From Bridge Into Elizabeth River (Photos, Video) Firefighters rescued a man from the Elizabeth River was rescued by firefighters Sunday night. The man had either jumped or fallen into the area of the river at Broad Street and Rahway Avenue near the fire station around 5:30 p.m. Sources with direct knowledge of the incident said the man had been removed and turned over to EMS.
