Man Fatally Shot In Newark: Prosecutors
A 39-year-old Newark man was fatally shot on Friday, Sept. 8, authorities said. At 6:43 p.m., Newark police responded to a shooting on the 100 block of Brookdale Avenue and found Ralph Harris suffering from gunshot wounds, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II and Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. He was transported to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead soon after, Stephens and Fragé said. Bodycam footage released by the Newark Police Department shows the takedown of a shooting suspect Monday, April 18 (scroll for video). Jose Soto Vargas, 39, was arrested inside of a shop, where officers had him on the ground as they put him in handcuffs, Newark Public Safety Director Brian A. O’Hara said. Police in Newark are turning to the public in locating a woman who they say damaged a vehicle with a baseball bat and cut one of the car's occupants with a knife. Laura Harrell, 26, of Newark, is wanted for aggravated assault following the March 27 incident, Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose said. Police responded to reports of a stabbing in progress on Brookdale Avenue around 7:05 p.m., where the victim said a woman -- later identified as Harrell -- began hitting the vehicle she was in with a bat, Ambrose said. Pair Killed In July Fourth Newark Shooting
Two people were killed in a Fourth of July shooting in Newark. Nekeya Grady, 36, of Willingboro and Earl Cohen, 46, of Newark, were shot on the 100 block of Brookdale Avenue and were pronounced dead at the scene around 3 p.m., Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N.
