Motive Unclear After Gang Jumps Lyndhurst Resident, Flees Off-Duty Officer An off-duty police officer rescued a Lyndhurst man who was jumped by a group of assailants as he and his wife left their apartment, authorities said. The attackers were "all wearing facial coverings" when they demanded entry into the victim's Stuyvesant Avenue home around 6 a.m. Thursday, Detective Lt. Vincent Auteri said. The passing officer scared them off, however, he said. The officer tended to the victim before an EMS unit took him to Hackensack University Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries, the lieutenant said. Pair Sought In Connection With Newark Handgun Recovery Authorities in Newark are seeking help identifying a pair of men wanted in connection with the recovery of a firearm. Police recovered a handgun on the 200 block of Emmet Street Sept. 12, and are seeking the men captured on surveillance for questioning. One suspect is described as around 6 feet tall, 180 pounds, wearing a black and New Era baseball cap with a white logo. He also had on black, blue and purple sneakers and had a soft cast or ace bandage on his right wrist. Police Looking For Armed Robbery Suspect In Newark Police are asking the public's help locating and identifying the person seen in the attached photo in connection with an armed robbery.  Around 10 a.m. Aug. 4, someone got out of a dark-colored older model car in the 400 block of Halsey Street and robbed a man at gunpoint.
