A car thief has been charged in a January 2023 hit-run crash that killed a 5-year-old girl and wounded her dad and 2-year-old sister while they were crossing a Newark street, authorities said. Suhrell S. Proctor, 23, of Newark, was behind the wheel of a stolen vehicle when he struck the girl and her dad as they crossed 6th Avenue at North 9th Street on Jan. 31, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. 5-Year-Old Girl Dead In Newark Crash: Prosecutor
A 5-year-old girl was struck and killed while her father and younger sister were hospitalized in a Newark crash Tuesday, Jan. 31, authorities said. The girl was struck at the intersection of 6th Avenue and North 9th Street around 6:45 p.m., Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II and Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. Sources with direct knowledge of the incident say the vehicle flee the scene. Heroin, 19 Illegal Firearms Seized Last Week In Newark
Police recovered 19 illegal firearms, loaded magazines, heroin and more from more than a dozen individuals in Newark in the last week, they said. The recoveries — from June 28 to July 7 — mark a 30 percent increase over the same period last year, Interim Newark Public Safety Director Raul Malave said. Ten Illegal Guns, DJ Equipment, Drugs Seized Father's Day Weekend In Newark
Police in Newark recovered 10 illegal guns and arrested four men, some of whom pointed their firearms at people at threatened to hurt or kill them, all over Father's Day Weekend, authorities said. According to Newark Public Safety Director Brian A. O’Hara, the following arrests were made: Melvin Thomas, 23, of East Orange, was arrested near North 12th Street and 6th Avenue on June 19, after police saw him with an unlabeled bottle of 48 Oxycodone pills and a handgun after a traffic stop.
