Police Looking For Man Accused Of Beating, Kidnapping Woman In Newark

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a Newark man who hit and strangled a woman before nearly running her over with a car, police said Friday.

Josue Rosario, 27, got into a quarrel with a woman on Thursday at a home in the city's East Ward. Rosario struck the woman, who left the home, according to an account by police. 

Rosario got into the woman's vehicle and began chasing her, crashing into a mailbox and a street sign to force her into the vehicle and speeding away. Rosario twice strangled the woman to silence her when she screamed for help, police said. 

The woman escaped when the vehicle slowed down. She was treated at a hospital and released. 

Rosario faces charges of aggravated assault, terroristic threats and theft. 

He is described as 5’7” tall and 140 lbs. with a fair complexion, black hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the department's 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477) or 1-877-NWK-GUNS (1-877-695-4867).
