In response, Spiller said the township has retained third party specialists to investigate and contact the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security, the FBI and state law enforcement.
"It appears that the criminal group that has attacked multiple other municipalities in similar fashion is responsible," Spiller said, though he did not specify the name of the group.
Spiller said Montclair is focused on restoring full access to systems and services. Spiller said the cyber attack did not impact Tuesday's primary elections.
"We ask for your patience as some of our services may be delayed," Spiller said. "We will... update you with additional information as it is available."
