Vincent Tango, Folk Artist Who Captured Everyday Montclair, Dead At 74

Vincent Tango, a painter who depicted football games and everyday life in his Montclair home town, died early Monday after a lengthy battle with illness, his cousin, Donato DiGeronimo confirmed. He was 74, DiGeronimo, a retired Montclair firefighter, said.

Tango's works, including a series entitled "Tango Through Time," were frequently displayed at local venues like the Crane House & Historic YMCA. 

A 1962 graduate of Montclair High School and a member of its football team, Tango often painted scenes from the gridiron, as well as local landmarks like Bond's Ice Cream and Edgemont Park. Subjects of other paintings include the old Bellevue Theater and the annual St. Sebastian's Feast.
